What does finding your voice actually mean in these times? Life has a way of throwing curve balls at us; there is always something happening. Whether in our private or professional life, challenges will always be present. As human beings, we tend to scan for all the negatives, always on defense mode—well, most of us, not all. This reflection is for those who scan, who peruse for signs, and live their lives in fear of speaking out and truly finding their voice. I want to remind you that your voice matters and your story is even more important.
Trying to fit in can feel like a monumental feat. Past traumas create invisible barriers, clouds of darkness that make fear feel so real, almost tangible. In those moments, it is easier to lose yourself, to silence your truth just to keep peace or remain unseen. But remember—you are not alone. Fear is the biggest enemy, the thief of progress. Fear will freeze you, keeping you from exploring your full capabilities, from reaching your highest potential. Allah (SwT) is your guide. He is there for you if you choose to surrender and give it all to Him.
Psychologists view fear as one of the most basic and universal human emotions. It is both biological and psychological, serving as a survival mechanism, but becoming problematic when it grows excessive or irrational. Often, these irrational fears stem from years of conditioning, repeated patterns from childhood that shape how we respond to people, places, and situations — whether environmental or otherwise.
Finding your voice in the midst of this is not easy, but it is possible. It requires a shift in perspective, intentional inner work, and above all, reliance on Allah (SWT). True reliance opens the door to trying new things, stepping into unfamiliar spaces, and moving toward a healthier, freer life.
When you truly believe that nothing is in your control, your nervous system begins to relax. A unregulated nervous system is dangerous — it keeps you stuck in a cycle of hyper vigilance, feeding the intense fear of losing control. Yet, this fear itself becomes a subtle form of control. The real breakthrough lies in learning to let go, trusting in Allah’s decree, and allowing yourself to move forward with courage and peace.
Finding your voice will become easier once you begin changing these inner patterns. You’ll notice yourself hearing your own truth more clearly, with less noise from fear and conditioning. And when that happens, embracing your authentic self will no longer feel like a battle — it will feel natural, like returning home to who you always were.
